Frequently Asked Question
Chromebooks have a Microphone sensitivity setting (gain, but you can think of it like volume). This setting controls the sensitivity of the microphone. Usually the microphone sensitivity should be set to the middle of the range. If participants in meetings are telling you that your sound is very distorted, loud, or too quite check this setting.
To access the microphone gain setting:
- Click on the clock down in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Click the arrow to the right of the volume slider
- Under the Input section adjust the Microphone slider to the middle of the range. See this animation.
Setting the microphone sensitivity slider above the middle of the range may cause your audio to be very distorted, setting the microphone sensitivity too low may make the audio very quiet and hard for other meeting participants to hear.
